hello february. some sweet friends and scenes from a week in costa rica, part 1.

i still marvel at the beauty of flight, the vistas

i still marvel at the beauty of flight, the vistas inaccessible from ground, the sunshine beaming above the weather, the break from connection so i can feel connection when i return to land. i’ve been flying since i was 4 (maybe younger) and my parents lived in different states. i’ve never belonged to one family unit (though we’re all kin) or one land (though it’s all one earth), yet i’ve always belonged to one sky.
what still fascinates you even though it may also seem routine and demystified?

Light in the darkness. I wasn't expecting a light

Light in the darkness.
I wasn't expecting a lightning, thunder, and rain storm last night that turned into snow sometime this morning. I was a kid all over again, startled by the noise and flashes of light in an otherwise warm and dark night. It reminded me of where I am in my own season of life right now—quiet, questioning, with bursts of insights and excitement followed by delicious darkness and enough quiet to feel my sacred knowings, surprised by startling fear reminding me of deep rooted longings I'd long ago quieted, which rise like thunder. I long to be free to express myself eloquently without caveat, excuse, safety. I long to matter to myself, to belong not only to this world, but to myself.
Thank you, wondrous existence.
