Not much to say other than OH MY LAWDY I just saw the most beautiful falls that I’ve ever seen. Better than the one I climbed in Maui, better than the Jurassic Park opening scene, better than Niagra. Falls Creek Falls, creatively named for both the creek and the falls. Without further ado, some photos to begin your wandering and a review by someone else who sums it up much better than I could try in my post hike fatigue. (Ignore her notation on it only being 1.7 miles. That’s the baby hike to the falls viewing. Seeing as how we missed a few turns, we ended up hiking at least 7 miles with about 1500 ft elevation gain.) Huge thanks to Rebecca for her research and planning!

It’s been raining seemingly unstop since April and, as such, we’ve been accustomed to the slug infestation. I rarely see snails, however, so I take my time playing w/the little fellow. I often forget the pleasure in taking 15 minutes to watch, breathe, listen. And, as I begin to prepare myself for another birthday, I realize the progress in going slow. I can see the trail- carefully chartered, executed and captured. No energy waisted in u turns and destinationless revolutions.

This past weekend, I went with some friends to Astoria for the 25th Anniversary of the Goonies celebration and was blessed with a day of sunshine, delicious food at the Columbian Cafe – without a doubt, the best brunch on the Pacific Coast. As we checked out the “for sale” sign on the house next to “THE Goonies House” I spotted Mr Quackles. His owner came home as we were chatting and informed us that friendly Mr Quackles’ partner recently passed away after an unfortunate encounter with a raccoon. I would have stayed longer to continue conversing with the lonely, chatty duck, but I opted to make my way down the hill in silence.

Artist Reception: Aug 3, 2009 Jewel Mlnarik, a local artist and digital media and project consultant, shows a selection of her black and white photos from a road trip across America. The portraits, a selection from her Talk to Strangers series, explore the commonalities threaded through us all. Swing by Echo Restaurant before August 12 to take a look, enjoy a vintage cocktail or refreshing beer, cool off in the air conditioning and talk to strangers. Friends are OK, too. Artist reception is Monday night, August 3rd from 5pm – close. Swing by for happy hour, dinner or conversation.

At the time, I had visions of expanding to music and technology and had some witty commentary on the gmail and at&t outtage. Fine, laugh away… Good news is that I’m slowly getting there and willing to share my portfolio and albums along the way. Just remember they’re not complete and I appreciate any and ALL feedback. You may also click through to comment on any photo directly on Flickr.com. Strangers: Portraits from the Road (in progress) American Sign Language (in progress) info on the trip
